Condemns political repression worldwide and expresses solidarity with people imprisoned for peacefully expressing political or religious beliefs. It calls on the U.S. Government to continue condemning political imprisonment, to hold repressive regimes accountable, to raise public awareness, to pursue negotiated releases, and supports establishing an "International Day of Political Prisoners" in the United States.
The resolution also records findings that roughly one million people — including journalists, academics, activists, dissidents, antiwar campaigners, and human rights defenders — are detained for political reasons, notes countries where such repression has been documented, recalls U.S. efforts to secure releases in 2024–2025, and recognizes October 30 as the Day of Political Prisoners since 1974.
