This bill changes how long certain water pollution permits can last. It lets states and cities get National Pollutant Discharge Elimination System (NPDES) permits for up to 10 years. Other permit holders can get permits for up to 5 years. It also makes small wording fixes to the law to clean up cross-references and capitalization.
Key points
What this could mean for communities: Local water and wastewater systems run by cities or states may have longer, more predictable permits, which could make planning upgrades and costs easier. Other permit holders would keep the usual 5‑year timeline.
