This bill tells the top U.S. military leaders to study whether and how to add new biotech tools and ideas into their war games. The study must look at things like biotech that could boost troops’ mental or physical performance, new biotech-made materials and chemicals that might give an edge in battle, and how other countries might use biotech in ways beyond traditional biological weapons. Leaders must talk with combat commanders and experts inside and outside the Defense Department to spot the latest advances worth practicing in exercises.
Within 180 days of the law taking effect, they must send Congress a report with any recommended changes to war games and, if needed, a plan to keep those exercises up to date as biotech advances. “Wargaming exercises” here means military practice events to test or improve tactics, including the Globally Integrated Wargames.
