This bill would cancel unspent federal money set aside for electric vehicle charging and fueling grants. Any of these leftover funds would be pulled back and sent to the U.S. Treasury to help reduce the federal deficit. It targets both competitive charging/fueling grants and the National Electric Vehicle Infrastructure (NEVI) Formula Program funds that haven’t been committed yet.
What this means: states, cities, and private partners planning future EV charging projects with federal grant money could lose access to any dollars that haven’t already been formally committed. The goal is to cut spending by returning those unspent amounts to the general fund.
