This bill would pause making new pennies for 10 years to save taxpayer money. Congress says there are already enough pennies in circulation, and making more costs more than they’re worth. Pennies would still be legal to use for any purchase or payment during this time. The U.S. Mint could still make limited pennies for coin collectors, but those would be sold to cover all production costs.
