Referred to the Committee on Education and Workforce, and in addition to the Committees on House Administration, and Oversight and Government Reform, for a period to be subsequently determined by the Speaker, in each case for consideration of such provisions as fall within the jurisdiction of the committee concerned.
This bill removes the rule in the Family and Medical Leave Act (FMLA) that makes married couples who work for the same employer share a single pool of leave time. By deleting that rule, each spouse could use their own full FMLA leave, instead of splitting one combined amount between them.
In everyday terms, if both spouses work at the same place, they would no longer have to share FMLA leave when welcoming a new child or caring for a family member. Each person could take their own eligible time off under FMLA.
