This bill would let low-income seniors use their farmers’ market vouchers to buy tree nuts, including shelled nuts, through the Senior Farmers’ Market Nutrition Program. Right now, the program helps seniors buy fresh, local foods like fruits, vegetables, honey, and herbs at farmers’ markets, roadside stands, and community supported agriculture programs; this bill adds tree nuts to that list. The change is made by updating the law to include “tree nuts (including shelled tree nuts)” as eligible foods under the program.
