This bill adds tree nuts, including shelled nuts, to the list of foods that low-income seniors can buy with their farmers’ market coupons. It updates the Senior Farmers’ Market Nutrition Program so coupons could also be used for tree nuts, not just fruits, vegetables, honey, and herbs. The program gives states funds to provide coupons or vouchers that seniors can use at farmers’ markets, roadside stands, and community supported agriculture programs to buy eligible, locally grown foods.
