Creates a national Working Group on Unifying Loneliness Research that the Department of Health and Human Services must convene to recommend standard, consistent ways to define and measure loneliness and social isolation. The group must produce recommendations and submit a report to Congress within one year and the authority for the working group sunsets at the end of 2027.
The law defines “loneliness” and “isolation,” lists the types of members to be included, sets the group’s goals (including measurement standards and research coordination), and requires the Secretary of HHS to form the group and deliver the report. No new funding is specified in the text; the working group is time-limited and focused on producing recommended measurement standards and guidance for research and practice.
Referred to the House Committee on Energy and Commerce.
