This bill tells the Department of Health and Human Services to set up a national working group to create clear, standard ways to measure loneliness and social isolation, and to define these terms in plain language for the public . The goal is to make research and health care more consistent and useful, and to help people better understand these issues. The group must share its recommendations with Congress and post them online within one year, and it will end after 2027 .
The bill also spells out simple definitions: “loneliness” is the feeling of being isolated, while “isolation” means actually having few or no social connections.
