This bill would tighten how immigration officials supervise people who are not in detention. It says no one can be placed in the Alternatives to Detention program unless every detention bed is already filled and officials have tried all reasonable ways to detain them. If someone is not detained, they must be tracked by GPS at all times during their immigration case and follow a nightly curfew from 10 p.m. to 5 a.m.
It also says that if a person who was released does not follow their release rules, and an immigration officer swears to that in writing to a judge, the person must be ordered removed without being present in court.
