This bill makes it easier for ranchers with federal grazing permits to do small, routine fixes on the land they use. If a permit holder tells their local Forest Service district ranger or BLM district/field manager 30 days before starting a minor fix, they can proceed if the official approves or doesn’t reply in that time. Minor fixes include work on existing fences and fence lines, wells, water pipelines, and stock tanks. Agencies must also answer written requests from permit holders within 30 days and, if they agree to do the work themselves, move quickly to get it done.
Within one year after this becomes law, the Agriculture and Interior Departments must put these rules in place for Forest Service and BLM grazing permits. The local officials are expected to expedite approved projects using available tools to speed things up.
