Requires the Department of Transportation to publish an annual report of crimes occurring on federally funded transit systems, using the crimes transit agencies already report to the National Transit Database and distinguishing violent from non‑violent incidents. Also directs the Federal Transit Administration to convene a Task Force of stakeholders and officials to study transit safety and submit an interim report in one year and a final report in two years with recommendations to improve safety.
The first DOT crime report must be delivered within 90 days after the law takes effect and then annually by January 1. The Task Force must follow federal advisory committee rules and produce actionable recommendations to inform agencies and operators on ways to improve rider and worker safety.
