This bill, the Volunteer Driver Tax Appreciation Act of 2025, would let volunteer drivers for charities deduct their miles at the same rate businesses use, instead of the old 14 cents per mile. It applies when a volunteer uses their car to transport people or goods for a qualifying nonprofit. Other charitable driving would still stay at 14 cents per mile. The IRS would set the volunteer-driver rate, but it can’t be lower than the business mileage rate. This change would start for tax years beginning after December 31, 2024.
