This bill would give a refundable federal tax credit to help pay for “access technology” for people who are blind. The credit covers what you spend on qualifying hardware or software that turns visual information into formats blind users can use (like screen readers or braille displays). It can be used for yourself, your blind spouse, or your blind dependent, as long as the cost isn’t already paid by insurance or covered by another tax break .
You could claim up to $2,000 for each blind individual in any three-year period. The $2,000 cap is set to rise with inflation for tax years starting after 2026. The credit would start for tax years beginning in 2026 and end after the 2030 tax year. You can’t double-dip with other deductions or credits for the same expense .
