Referred to the House Committee on Energy and Commerce.
Introduced June 20, 2025 by Danny K. Davis · Last progress June 20, 2025
Recognizes June 19, 2025 as World Sickle Cell Awareness Day and calls on the Department of Health and Human Services and other federal agencies to take coordinated action to improve newborn screening, expand fair access to current and emerging sickle cell disease (SCD) treatments (including cell, gene, and gene‑editing therapies), and confront bias affecting populations most impacted by SCD and sickle cell trait (SCT). It summarizes the public‑health burden of SCD/SCT and the need for better treatment availability, research, and equitable care.
The measure asks federal agencies to develop policies and an interagency group to strengthen screening, treatment access, and outreach, but does not create new funding or authorize programs in statute.
