Received in the Senate.
This bill tells the American Battle Monuments Commission to run a program to find American‑Jewish servicemembers who were buried in U.S. military cemeteries overseas with a headstone that shows the wrong religion, and to reach out to their families. Congress notes that an estimated 900 Jewish servicemembers from World War I and World War II were mistakenly buried under Latin Crosses, and says it’s important to honor them correctly.
The commission must partner each year with a nonprofit to carry out this work, using a one‑year contract for $500,000, for the first five fiscal years after the bill becomes law. The bill also updates an existing veterans’ pension rule date to January 31, 2032.
