Passed/agreed to in Senate: Submitted in the Senate, considered, and agreed to without amendment and with a preamble by Unanimous Consent.
Introduced November 10, 2025 by Amy Klobuchar · Last progress November 10, 2025
Marks the 50th anniversary of the wreck of the SS Edmund Fitzgerald, honors the 29 crew members who died, and offers support to their families. The resolution praises the search and rescue efforts (Coast Guard and commercial vessels), recognizes Gordon Lightfoot and Great Lakes communities that remember the ship, and restates a commitment to safe shipping on the Great Lakes.
The measure is commemorative and symbolic: it recounts facts about the ship and its last voyage, acknowledges subsequent safety changes prompted by the tragedy, and expresses national remembrance and gratitude rather than creating new legal requirements or funding.
Submitted in the Senate, considered, and agreed to without amendment and with a preamble by Unanimous Consent. (consideration: CR S8183; text: CR S8134)
