This bill aims to protect elections from misleading AI media. It would make it illegal to knowingly share AI‑made images, audio, or videos that look real but are fake about federal candidates, when used to sway voters or raise money as part of election activities. It defines this kind of content as “deceptive AI‑generated” when AI creates or alters media so it appears authentic and would mislead a reasonable person about what someone said or did. News outlets and publishers are not penalized if they show such content as part of real news coverage and clearly tell viewers or readers there are questions about its authenticity; satire and parody are also allowed. A candidate can ask a court to stop the spread of the fake content and sue for damages, and a court may award attorney’s fees; the candidate must prove the violation by clear and convincing evidence.
