This bill would make it illegal to offer or advertise so‑called “conversion therapy.” It says being LGBTQ+ is not an illness, there’s no proof conversion therapy works, and it can cause real harm like depression and self‑harm. It bans anyone from providing conversion therapy, from running ads that claim they can change someone’s sexual orientation or gender identity or reduce same‑gender attraction, and from saying these efforts are harmless. It also bans helping provide it if you get paid for it.
The rules would be enforced by the Federal Trade Commission as deceptive or unfair practices. The U.S. Attorney General and state attorneys general could also go to court to stop violations, with the FTC able to step in on state cases .
Referred to the House Committee on Energy and Commerce.
